Nouveau riche is a French term. It means in English new rich in other words it simply means new money. New rich is generally a term which is used to refer those people who earn wealth and acquire assets only in his or her generation. Usually this particular term nouveau riche specifically points out that those individuals who are nouveau riche are those who had been below the socioeconomic standard in their previous generation and have earned enough money or wealth only in this generation which has been the base for acquirement of luxury goods, assets and various other expensive stuffs which were out of their reach in their previous generation due to their economic status. Generally this term is used to distinct those people who are rich from previous generations from those who have become rich only in their present generation. There are people who have been rich from generation to generation and there are also people who would have seen luxury only for a short term in the society. Those people who are rich for multiple generations would have been used the royal life and luxury but those who see richness newly are distinctly called the new rich.
